Occupying a total area of 24 square kilometers, the airport is being developed in line with the highest international aviation standards. Key elements of the project include a 125,000-square-meter passenger terminal designed to optimize passenger flow and deliver a seamless travel experience, alongside 12 modern aircraft bridges and a 3,800- meter runway capable of accommodating a wide range of aircraft, including wide-body jets. The airport will feature a dedicated VIP terminal that provides secure and premium services for diplomats and high-profile travelers, as well as advanced cargo and logistics facilities to support commercial transport and trade. Administrative and technical buildings will house air traffic control, safety, and ground operations, ensuring efficient and coordinated functionality across all airport services. Beyond its physical infrastructure, the project is strategically designed to generate a broad socioeconomic impact. It aims to enhance Libya’s air connectivity regionally and internationally, stimulate investment and tourism in eastern Libya, and foster economic revitalization. It is expected to create more than 800 temporary jobs during construction and over 300 permanent positions upon completion. Additionally, the integration of smart systems and sustainable practices is set to drive technological transformation in the country’s aviation sector. This transformative development aligns with the broader objectives of the National Development Authority, reflecting Libya’s renewed commitment to building a modern, resilient, and globally integrated infrastructure. As construction progresses, Benghazi International Airport is poised to become a cornerstone of national growth and a symbol of future ambition.
