Belgasem Haftar Inspects Progress at Benghazi International Airport
Jul, 20, 2025
As part of efforts to oversee one of the largest infrastructure projects in Libya’s modern history, Engineer Belgasem Haftar, Director General of the Libyan Reconstruction and Development Fund, conducted a field visit to the Benghazi International Airport construction site. He was accompanied by Hatem Al-Oribi, Director of the Projects Department, along with a team of engineers from the Fund.
This strategic project is being implemented by a consortium of international and local companies, including Eber Alalam for General Contracting and Real Estate Investment, a key subsidiary of Khalifa Holding Group.
Engineer Haftar was received by Dr. Jibril Al-Badri, President of the National Development Authority, alongside several engineers and representatives from the companies involved in the project.
During the visit, Engineer Haftar praised the National Development Authority and the executing firms for their accelerated pace of work and commitment to delivering the project on schedule while upholding the highest standards of quality. He emphasized that this airport represents a transformational milestone in Libya’s aviation sector and a significant step toward realizing a broader vision of positioning Libya as a key global transit hub and a commercial gateway contributing to national economic growth.
Benghazi International Airport stands as one of Libya’s most ambitious strategic developments. Once completed, it will be the largest international airport in North Africa in terms of area and passenger capacity, with the ability to accommodate over 15 million travelers annually. The project also includes a dedicated air cargo terminal, a modern passenger hall, and a VIP lounge—the first of its kind in Libya.
